Mac OS 10.6: Permissions Error, Cobalt, Xenon, Argon & Graphite v8
Mac OS 10.6: Permissions Error, Cobalt, Xenon, Argon & Graphite v8
Solution
"Permissions Error" appears to be happening on machines that have been migrated to OS X 10.6 from 10.5 or 10.4 (one or both, we're not sure yet)
To Fix:
1st, Be sure you are running the latest v8 SP2. You can find the latest builds in the downloads section of
http://support.ashlar.com
2nd, try the "Repair Permissions" option found in Apple's Disk Utility software. The Disk Utility software can be found in "Applications/Utilities" on your boot hard drive.
3rd, If the above does not clear the problem, you can reset permissions manually:
In the folder "/Users/USERNAME/Library/Applications Support" there is a folder "Ashlar-Vellum"
Display info on this folder and make sure that in permissions your user name is listed as read-write. If not, change it to read-write or add it then change it to read-write.
After you have the permissions set at this level, in the little "gear box" at the bottom of the info pane (below the permissions) you can set 'apply to enclosed items'
Then, in the folder "/Library/Applications Support" there is a folder "Ashlar-Vellum"
Display info on this folder and make sure that in permissions the user name that you are using to register v8 SP2 for the first time has read-write permissions, or that the user name you are using to register v8 SP2 for the first time is a member of the group "admin" and that the group "admin" has read-write permissions. If not, take what ever action you deem appropriate to make one of the above true.
After you have the permissions set at this level, in the little "gear box" at the bottom of the info pane (below the permissions) you can set "apply to enclosed items"
If after the above 3 steps, you still have an issue, please email

. BE SURE TO INCLUDE FULL CONTACT DETAILS INCLUDING A PHONE NUMBER, along with your serial number.
